UPDATE On Two-Vehicle Accident That Took The Life Of Florence Police Novak Officer

FLORENCEUPDATE: The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency released a statement concerning the accident that took the life of a Florence Police Officer and injured the driver of the second vehicle.  The Accident occurred on Saturday night, August 8:

“A two-vehicle crash at 10:53 p.m., late Saturday night, August 8, 2020, has claimed the life of a Florence man. 

Off-duty Florence Police Officer 51-year-old Jason K. Novak, was killed when the 1986 BMW 528 he was driving collided with a 2014 Nissan Altima, being driven by 26-year-old Laiken Paige Owen, of Florence, Alabama. 

Officer Novak was transported to the North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC) in Florence, Alabama, for treatment, but died of his injuries at the hospital.  Owen was also transported to NAMC for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

The crash occurred on Pine Street in Florence near the campus of the University of North Alabama.  Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.”
