Dave M. Smith announces he will run for Florence City Council District 1 seat. Dave ‘s goal and reason for running would be to enhance District 1 with his number one priority being the Citizens of District the district.
He emphasized safety for all citizens and a revitalization in the district. He will strive to see that the people in District 1 have jobs with livable wages with WIFI in all areas of the district for schoolchildren to be able to do their homework efficiently. “A lot of the low-income areas may not have all they need to get their homework done properly due to the fact a lot of home work is now done online. Some children have no way to get to the library or the downtown area where WIFI is available.
One of Dave’s goals would be to rename West College Street the “W.C. Handy Street” and the bridge at the west end of College Street and West Mobile Street the “W.C. Handy Bridge”. 3,000 signatures have already be accumulated on a petition to name the street after Handy several years ago, but it did not go further. Smith would like to see this project through to fruition.
Smith says he loves Florence and would like nothing better than to serve the citizens of District 1 as their Councilman.
