Robert 'Bob' Gordon Houghton Robert ‘Bob’ Gordon Houghton, 85, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday, August 1st, 2020, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born on November 29, 1934 in Canton, Ohio to Hugh and Ellen Houghton. Robert served in the U.S. Army for 28 years and served two tours in Vietnam. He also serviced multiple tours in Germany, three tours in Korea, and on bases throughout the United States. He met his beautiful bride and wife, Renate Marlene, on his first tour in Germany. Robert married Renate in 1959 in Germany. They were happily married for 61 years. After retiring from the US Army, Robert worked for SCI for 10+ years before retiring from there as well. He dedicated his life to his family and was a loving husband and father.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Ellen Houghton; brothers, Richard and David; and his first son, Robert Michael Houghton.

Survivors include his wife, Renate; his second son, Richard Houghton and wife, Lynn, of Huntsville; his third son, Ronald Houghton and fiance, Michi, of Germany; his fourth son, Randy Houghton and wife, Doretta, of Austria; his first son’s wife, Andrea, of Germany; his grandchildren, Daniela, David, Jennifer, Robin, Michelle, and Kevin; his great-grandchildren, Alexia, Andrew ‘Drew’, Alex, Lilia, Harley, Kilian, and Lilli; his brother, Eddie; his sister, Dorothy; and his loving nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives.

There will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
