Albert “Bert” DeMasters Brewster
August 5, 1933 – June 26, 2020

“Bert”, as he was known to his many friends and family, was a native Huntsvillian, born to Larkin Paul Brewster of Scottsboro and Mary Francis DeMasters Brewster of Huntsville. Bert was active in church for most of his life, attending First Presbyterian Church, First Christian Church, and the First United Methodist Church, where he ultimately became a lay minister and served several small churches in the surrounding counties. Bert sold insurance for a number of years before going to work for First Charge Plan at First National Bank and eventually served as Assistant Vice President at First Alabama Bank. After leaving the bank, he opened his own business, Diamond Action Advertising, where he sold advertising specialties. It was upon retiring from Diamond Action, that he became a minister, until he retired for good. He found many interests in life and volunteered for the Help Line. Bert served as committee member, treasurer, assistant scoutmaster, and scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 15. He also took up ice skating, painting, writing, and woodcarving. Bert was a proud participating member of the North Alabama Woodcarver’s Association. Yard work, fishing, canoeing, and camping were also among his enjoyed activities. Time and fellowship with his many friends and family were a very important part of his life. He was a big advocate of Learning Quest and the activities offered. Bert took an interest in people and helped anyone he could, subscribing to the theory, “if you aren’t helping someone, you’re a waste of good air”.
