Elizabeth "Betty" Huth Schonrock Elizabeth “Betty” Huth Schonrock, 76, of Huntsville, Alabama died Friday. Betty is survived by her children, Heather Schonrock (Bill Lyons) and Keith Schonrock III (April) and four grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Ret. Col. Chauncey W. Huth; her sister, Virginia Fowler (Jim); and the father of her children, Keith H. Schonrock Jr.

After her graduation from Vanderbilt University, Betty worked for IBM and the Apollo space program as a computer programmer. She was a strong community leader and volunteer for the city of Huntsville including the Benton H. Wilcoxon Ice Complex, the Huntsville Museum of Art, Randolph School, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild, the Von Braun Center Board, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, UAH Charger Ice Hockey, and Leadership Huntsville Class 15. She was awarded the Governor’s Arts Award by the State of Alabama, the Virginia Hammill Simms Award, the Madison County Women’s Scroll of Honor award from the Girls Scouts of North Alabama as well as Huntsville-Madison County Senior Center Path of Honor and U.S. Congressional Record Honoree.

A private family service will be held. A celebration of life gathering in Huntsville, Alabama will be announced at a later date.
