Domestic Altercation Turns Deadly In Florence; Father Killed, Son Charged

FLORENCE-On Saturday, Jue 27 Captain Brad Holmes of the Florence Police Department issued a statement concerning the overnight shooting of John Sherwood White, 59 which resulted in his death:

 “A domestic altercation between a son and father turns deadly in overnight shooting. Florence Police have arrested and charged John Patrick White, 37, of Florence, with the murder of his father, John Sherwood White, 59, also of Florence.

At approximately 10:30 pm Friday night officers with the Florence Police Department responded to reports of a shooting that had just occurred at 4270 Chisholm Road. Officers arrived to find John Sherwood White suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the address. John Patrick White, the victim’s son, was also at the scene when officers arrived. Responding officers provided medical care to John Sherwood White until EMS arrived. He was transported to the North Alabama Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

Detectives were dispatched to the scene and have worked throughout the night to determine the exact events leading to shoots being fired. Witnesses at the scene provided information to law enforcement leading to the arrest of John Patrick White. John Patrick White was taken into custody without incident and charged with Murder. He is currently being held at the Lauderdale County Detention Center with a bond of $150,000.

This case remains very active as detectives to continue to gather information and attempt to determine the motive of the shooting.
