Sonia Renee Burke, age 60, long time resident of Columbia, passed away on Monday, June 22, at Magnolia Healthcare.
Sonia was born December 24, 1959 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of the late William Jackson Hendrix and Frances Potts Hendrix. Sonia was the “ultimate babysitter,” having worked in child care her entire life. Sonia’s son, Will, related that for as long as he could remember, she loved Sun Drop and working crossword puzzles. She was the ultimate Wheel of Fortune and Days of our Lives fan. Sonia was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, where she worked in child care until becoming ill.
Sonia is survived by her son, Will Fitzgerald of Columbia; two brothers, Ben Burke of Chattanooga and William (Mary) Burke, of Franklin; nieces and nephews, Brian Burke, Melissa Burke, Zachary Stephen Burke and Natalie Fontana Burke. In addition to her parents, Sonia was preceded in death by a sister, Alicia Gaye Burke and brother, Stephen Lafayette Burke.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to First Presbyterian Church in Sonia’s memory.
