Funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy Louella Dye, also known as, “Granny Dye”, age 90, of Flintville, TN will be conducted at 2 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Milton Martin and Bro. Tommy Howell officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday from 12PM until the time of service at Higgins Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born on December 25, 1929, to the late Rev. Charles Issac and Mollie Elizabeth Wood Gwathney in Huntsville, AL. She passed away on June 20, 2020 at Huntsville Hospital from surgical complications. On July 2, 1948, Dorothy married Homer Haskel Dye, who preceded her in death on January 11, 2004; they enjoyed fifty five wonderful years together with their family. Dorothy was a cashier for the food service industry and after she retired at age 51, she and Homer moved to Flintville where she babysat children for many years. She will always be remembered for the chocolate donuts she made for the children at Halloween, the coconut cakes she baked at Christmas, truly a woman who loved to cook, as well as, a caretaker for all ages. Dorothy would often travel up north during the summer, where she would work in her daughter’s cafe (Barb’s cafe). She was fondly known as Granny by the employees and customers who will miss her dearly. Dorothy had a faith that was unmoved and always saw the good in people. She was a member of the Smithland Community Church.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Martha (Tom) Lynch of Flintville, Barbara Galvin (Len Lemanski) of Florence, WI, Patricia Grant of Sarasota, FL, and Sandra (Max) Thomas of Cornersville; daughter-in-law, Karen Smith Dye of Flintville; son-in -law, Larry Harrison of Flintville; twenty grandchildren; forty eight great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and many special nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Randall Clay Dye; three sisters, and six brothers.
