Athens Man In Jail For Possession Of Pipe Bomb

LIMESTONE COUNTY-On Thursday, June 11 investigators with the Limestone County sheriff’s Office received information that a possible explosive device was in a ditch on Huntsville-Brownsferry Road.  The sheriff’s department responded along with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Hazardous Device Team.

The device was a pipe bomb and according to authorities with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Rex Daniel Carter, 33 of Athens was arrested and charged with possession of a destructive device. Investigators obtained a search warrant for probale cause for Carter’s residence where aanother explosive device was  found in his home in Athens.

Carter was booked into the Limestone County Jail on a $100,000 bond.  Authorities with the sheriff’s office say further charges may be pending including federal charges.
