Donald Wayne WestmorelandDonald Wayne Westmoreland, 79, resident of Scribners Mill Road in the Culleoka Community, died Friday, May 29, 2020 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 1, 2020 at 7:00 P.M. at Highland Church of Christ with David Morris, Jacky White, Johnny White, and Kevin White officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 P.M. until service time at the church. A private burial will be held at Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are assisting the family with arrangements.

Born August 7, 1940 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Joe Westmoreland and the late Zula McCollum Westmoreland. He was a 1958 graduate of Columbia Central High School and served in the United States Army from 1960-1962 in Korea. Mr. Westmoreland worked for Monsanto Chemical Company as an electrician for 24 years and at the United States Postal Service for 18 years as an electrician and maintenance. Mr. Westmoreland loved farming, raising his cattle, and enjoyed the retired Monsanto Chemical Company luncheons.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was known for his love of God, family, and serving his country. Mr. Westmoreland was a member of Highland Church of Christ. He began attending Highland Church of Christ when he was 10 years old and went on to lead the bus ministry, teach Sunday School, and then served as a Deacon and Elder for 32 years.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, whom he married March 24, 1963, Thelma Jean McNeece Westmoreland of  Culleoka; daughters, Rhonda Westmoreland (Mark) Delk of Columbia; Delana Westmoreland (Kevin) White of Lebanon; son, Chad Wayne (Leslie Ann) Westmoreland of Franklin; brother, David (Paula) Westmoreland of Columbia; sisters, Nancy Jane (Jimmy) Derryberry of Duck River; Mary Jo Abanatha of Richmond, Kentucky; Brenda Gail (Jerry) Brown of Collierville; grandchildren, Samantha Mosley, Sawyer Mosley, Hallie Westmoreland, Cora Westmoreland, and Wyatt Westmoreland; uncle, Knox (Marilyn) McCollum; aunt, Daisy White; sisters-in-law, Margaret Norman, and Brenda Westmoreland; brother-in-law, Jerry (Martha) McNeece; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Westmoreland.

Active pallbearers will be Joey Westmoreland, Allen Gooch, Dale Ivey, Randy McNeece, Larry Nicholson, Roy Cochran, and Jerry Brown. Honorary pallbearers include Robert Deal, Monsanto Chemical Company retirees, and Elders and Deacons of Highland Church of Christ.

The family would like to express a special thanks to family and friends that have been there over the years for their love, support, and kindness.
