Mary Grace Dutmer Veeneman  Mary Veeneman, 89, of Huntsville passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020.

Mary was born and raised in Muskegon, MI with her younger brother and two older sisters. She enjoyed listening to and singing the old hymns from the Berean church of her youth. She and John Veeneman were wed on May 7, 1954. Mary would most often reminisce about the time when their first two sons were born while John attended Michigan Tech in the Upper Peninsula.

Early in their marriage, they lived in Grand Rapids and Grand Haven, MI and Winter Park, FL. Settling in Alabama, Huntsville had been their home since 1965. Together, they enjoyed traveling in their RV with their camping club and to visit family and spending time at their lake house on Smith Lake in Cullman, AL. She loved to shop and had an amazing memory of knowing where and when everything she treasured was purchased. Mary loved to make latch hook and arts and crafts. She was a homemaker and raised five children-four sons and a daughter. We are relieved that finally there is no more pain, no more tears, and her mind is at peace, as promised in Revelation 21:4.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Veeneman, in 2008; parents, Harry and Tressa (Hartman) Dutmer; brother, Martin Dutmer, and sister, Alice Sweet.

Survivors include her children; sons, Gary Veeneman and wife, Jean, of John’s Creek, GA, Joel Veeneman and wife, Judy, of Elizabethton, TN, Tom Veeneman and wife, Teresa, of New Market, and Paul Veeneman and wife, Janet, of Tullahoma TN; daughter, Lora Sisco and husband, Wayne, of Meridianville; sister, Kathryn Vriesman of Montague, MI; sister in law, Joann Osborn of Muskegon, MI; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary will be buried beside her husband in the veteran’s section of Maple Hill Cemetery off McClung Ave. The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. It is requested that family units comply with current social distancing guidelines.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of NHC Healthcare in Tullahoma for taking such wonderful care of their mother this year, especially throughout the pandemic when they were unable to visit.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the activities at NHC Tullahoma, Attn: Recreation Department, 1321 Cedar Lane, Tullahoma, TN 37388.
