Man Drives Car Into Tennessee River At McFarland Park Beach

FLORENCE-On Sunday, May 17 the Florence Police Department issued a statement concerning an incident where a car entered the water at the beach in McFarland Park:

“On Sunday, May 17, 2020 at approximately 12:57pm Officers with the Florence Police Department observed a vehicle driving recklessly at a high rate of speed in McFarland Park. Officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle at which time the vehicle entered the Tennessee River near the beach area of McFarland Park.

The driver of the vehicle then exited his vehicle and began to swim further into the river in attempt to get away from officers. The Florence Police Water Rescue and Recovery Team was called in to assist and was able to take the driver into custody without further incident. No other persons were in the vehicle.”
