Karen Sue Poss Bolger, 68, of Harvest, won her battle with cancer and went home to be with her Savior on Sunday, March 29,2020 while surrounded by family and friends. She was the most loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, “Nano,” and friend.

Karen was born in Sheffield, Al on July 17, 1951 to Fred and Madru Poss. She graduated from Sheffield High School in 1969 and earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Samford University in 1973. Karen later went on to earn a Master of Arts in Education in elementary education from UAB. She began teaching for Birmingham City Schools in the fall of 1973. Karen married William Bolger in 2000, and after her retirement in 2001, the couple moved to Huntsville where she taught at  Westminster Christian Academy from 2002-2009. She retired in 2009 to stay with her grandchildren who lovingly call her Nano.

Karen enjoyed sewing, traveling, and most of all spending time with her friends, family, and grandchildren. She was always an active church member participating in outreach and sharing the word of God. As a member of Kingwood Church in Alabaster, she was a strong supporter of the Master’s Commission Program. Karen “adopted” college-aged adults in the church program and provided a second home for them. She was known for saying, “The door is unlocked, and burgers are on the grill.”

After her diagnosis on October 12,2017, she remained positive and never slowed down. She continued to spend time with her family and grandchildren making sure not to miss an event. She was an inspiration to anyone she met always showing God’s love. Karen knew whether she was healed on Earth or in Heaven, cancer would not win. Her motto throughout her journey was “God’s got this,” and now God has her in His arms.

Karen is preceded in death by her father Fred A. Poss.  She is survived by her husband William Bolger, Harvest, Al;  mother Madru Poss, Sheffield; sister Sharon Poss Haynes, Sheffield, children Sara Clem (Andrew), Harvest, Drew Gilbert (Lorin) Harvest, grandchildren, Madelyn Clem, Alivia Clem, Lauren Clem, Chase and David Clem all of Harvest, niece Stephanie Royster (Doug), Florence, nephew Daniel Haynes (Heather), Florence, and a host of other loved ones.

A Celebration of Karen’s life will be held at a later date.
