Wilodene was born March 14, 1928 in Huntsville, Alabama where she lived most of her life until moving to Charlotte, NC in 2014 to live near her daughters, Beth Edwards O’Connor and Carol Ann Edwards. Wilodene was predeceased by parents, Fred Thomas Manning and Verna Manning Burton, stepfather, Homer Burton, former husband, William B. Edwards, and brother, Fred Thomas Manning Jr. Surviving Wilodene are her two daughters, Beth Edwards O’Connor and husband, Julian, and Carol Ann Edwards and husband, John Faust; granddaughters, Carolina Guarachi and Eva Erbskorn Daniels and husband, Chris; great-grandson, Tracen Trahan; and great-granddaughters, Ada and Clara Bee Daniels; nephew, Fred Thomas Manning III; and many cousins.

Wilodene attended Huntsville city schools, graduating from Huntsville High School in 1946 with honors. She then attended and graduated from Nashville Business College and went to work at Redstone Arsenal for the Dept. of the Army, then finished her career with the US Army Missile Command. Wilodene always enjoyed her work and took it very seriously as she felt it was important and contributed to a greater cause.

Wilodene was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church where she helped care for young children in the nursery for many years and later served on the altar guild. She met many friends and found much comfort at First Methodist.

Our heartfelt thanks is extended to the staff at Brighton Gardens of Charlotte, NC for their care and support of Wilodene during her last years there, as well as the Hospice and Palliative Care Team who provided comfort during her last weeks. Much appreciation is also extended to staff and members of First United Methodist Church who extended their attention to Wilodene during her last year living in Huntsville.

A memorial service will not be held at this time due to the pandemic with all of immediate family unable to travel to Huntsville. It will be held at an undetermined future time.
