She was born on December 26, 1940 at home in rural Hettinger County, ND. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church all her life. Her childhood dream was to join the Sisters of St. Benedict. In 1958 she entered the monastery in Bismarck, ND and was a member until 1975. She earned degrees in Nursing and Occupational Therapy and worked in the areas of Psychiatry and Medicine for 39 years. Almost half of those years were spent at the VA Hospital in Buffalo, NY, along with volunteering for Hospice. She finished her career at Union Regional Medical Center in Monroe, NC before retiring to Belmont, MS in 2003 to live close to her sister, Evelyn Bell and family. She enjoyed visiting family and friends in NC, ND, NY, and UT, cruising, quilting, and volunteering for her Church and the Helpful Samaritan Food Pantry. Her favorite things were angels and quilts, her pet cat, Noelle, listening to whippoorwills during the night, and watching birds outside her kitchen window. Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka, MS is entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors are her three sisters, Patricia Funderburk (Theodore) of Monroe, NC, Evelyn Bell (William) of Belmont, MS, and Veronica Earnhardt of Concord, NC; four god-children, Patrick McLaughlin (Sherrie) of Renton, WA, Harold Cole of Buffalo, NY, Elizabeth Steinhauser of Florida, and Amanda Merino of Belmont, MS; three nieces and six nephews; several grand nieces and nephews; and members of her special Church family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clement and Mary Urlacher; both brothers, Matthias Urlacher and Adam Urlacher; her grand nephew, Aaron Bell; and a close friend, Carole Grimes. In lieu of flowers, Christine requested that donations be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, The Helpful Samaritan Food Pantry, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or Hospice of Union County, Monroe, NC.
