Governor Ivey: Schools Move To Online Learning For Remainder Of The School Year

MONTGOMERY-On Thursday, March 26 State Superintendent of Education Dr. Eric Mackey and State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris joined Governor Kay Ivey in a press conference at 4PM to provide further updates on Alabama’s efforts to combat COVID-19.

Governor Kay Ivey announced students will not go back to a physical school for the 2019-2020 school year.

Governor Ivey has given schools permission to provide instruction to students at home starting on April 6.   Ivey instructed each of the state’s public K-12 schools to implement a plan to complete the 2019-2020 school year using “alternate methods of instruction.”  The State Superintendent of Education will establish the alternative Methods of Instruction for the remainder of the  2019-2020 School Year

State Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey said ALSDE will work to graduate all seniors as close to on time as possible and to ensure all other students are prepared to go to the next grade level.

Governor Ivey  ordered local school districts to make decisions about staffing and access to school buildings in compliance with public health orders and CDC/ADPH recommendations.

This move marks the end of sports for the school year.
