Madison County Inmate Found Dead, Sheriff’s Department Release Statement

MADISON COUNTY-On Thursday, February 27 the Madison County sheriff’s Office issued a press release concerning the death of an inmate who was in the custody of the sheriff’s department at the time of his death:

“On February 25, 2020, Huntsville Police responded to an area in Huntsville in reference to a see subject call. Upon their arrival, units made contact with a combative subject who had assaulted HEMSI personnel. The subject was identified as LETORRYNE JAMES TAYLOR, 24 yoa. Mr. Taylor was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd (Emergency Personnel) and transported to the Madison County Jail Facility. During an initial search of this subject, he was found in possession of a crystal rock-like substance, which tested positive for methamphetamine, at which time Mr. Taylor was then charged with Promoting Prison Contraband. Mr. Taylor was placed into a single cell and was found unresponsive at 4:10p on February 26, 2020 by jail personnel. HEMSI was notified, but the inmate was later pronounced dead. There were no signs of any injuries or trauma to Mr. Taylor, and it had been approximately 30 minutes since his last cell check.

MCSO investigators responded to the jail facility; at which time the scene was turned over to them. As standard protocol on all death investigations, the victim’s body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Nothing further at this time.”
