MADISON-Kevin T. Turner, Sheriff of Madison County issued a media release on Saturday, February 22 concerning the overdose of four inmates of the county jail:

“Huntsville, AL (February 22, 2020): The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after four inmates were transported to the hospital due to an overdose.

Investigators believe the inmates intentionally ingested a synthetic substance that made it into the jail through the Inmate Mail System. All four inmates are currently being treated at the hospital.

Sheriff Kevin Turner said, “We are aggressively investigating this incident and will hold anyone involved with mailing this substance into our facility responsible. The health and safety of our inmates is of utmost importance, and our jail staff works hard everyday to try and prevent these incidents. It often only takes small amounts of these synthetic chemicals to cause an overdose”.
