ATHENS-On Thursday, February 13 Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson issued a statement concerning the arrest of a man who had been soliciting minor children for sex:

“Wednesday morning, February 12 the police department received a call for Athens Intermediate school. The staff had been notified by several students that were waiting on a bus when a male drove up to them and asked them to have sexual contact with him. Currently we have identified four victims, three of the victims have been interviewed there age ranges from ten to eleven years of age. We have one more child  which will be interviewed in the near future.

In this case none of the children have any physical contact with the offender. When they arrived at school they notified the staff.  The school promptly notified parents and the police department. The school’s attention and prompt notification of the police department greatly assisted in the development of a suspect.

Last night Sgt. Jonathan Caldwell, Investigator Jarrod Smith and Captain Trevor Harris arrested Noah David Roberts on three counts of directing a child to engage in sexual contact.

Roberts was booked at the police department and later transferred to the county jail.

Our department is being assisted in the investigation  by the Athens Limestone Child Advocacy Center and District Attorney Brian Jones. This investigation is continuing and more charges are possible. I’m unable to make any further comments on this case at this time.”
