Jerry R. Oberg, 82, of Guntersville, Alabama, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2020 at his home. Jerry was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on April 3, 1937, a son of the late Oliver A. & Dorcas (Covey) Oberg. He was the husband of Sharon L. (Gray) Oberg. They were united in marriage on February 14, 1983, in New Bern, North Carolina. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 25 years. during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Creek Path Baptist Church, Guntersville, Alabama, was the Director of Fishers of Men, Guntersville, Alabama, and member of the Masonic Lodge #123.
After retiring from the Marines, Jerry further served his country working at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri, developing capabilities for our Armed Forces, and implementing and overseeing capabilities, aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina. He retired from McDonnell Douglas to Hermann, Missouri. Jerry worked at Handi-Pac, Inc. and was a devout member of First Baptist Church, Hermann, Missouri. In 1997, Jerry moved to Guntersville, Alabama and worked at United States Army post, Redstone Arsenal on several projects, including traveling world-wide inspecting and ensuring the safety of aircraft and equipment used by deployed troops. Jerry was a devoted member of Creek Path Baptist Church, Guntersville, Alabama where he loved teaching the word of God as a Sunday School teacher and Discipleship Training teacher. In his free time, Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and loved to read.
Jerry is survived by his wife Sharon Oberg; by their four children, Mark Oberg & wife Jeanine, of Morrison, Missouri; Jerry Oberg, Jr. of St. Charles, Missouri; Susan Burke & husband Scott of Laguna Niguel, California; Melissa Pelton & husband Steven of Raleigh, North Carolina; his brothers, Curtis Oberg & wife Shirley of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; Forest Oberg & wife Elaine of Kansas City, Missouri; Dennis Oberg of Antwerp, Belgium; and his grandchildren, Natalie Bish & husband Brian of Lake Jackson, Texas; Nicole Oberg & partner Joshua of Ballwin, Missouri; Lauren Marec & husband Steven of Mission Viejo, California; Trent Burke of Laguna Niguel, California; Ethan Pelton of Raleigh, North Carolina; Samuel (Sami) Pelton of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Rachel Ann Pelton of Raleigh, North Carolina and two great grandchildren, Luther Bish of Lake Jackson, Texas; James Bish of Lake Jackson, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents Oliver A. & Dorcas (Covey) Oberg.
