Raymond “Boy” Fanning

Raymond “Boy” Fanning, 87, of New Market, went to be with the Lord on Saturday.

He was born and raised in New Market and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Shortly before entering the Army, he met the love of his life, Jerry Brown, while he was in Texas. They married on February 2, 1952 and were together until her death in 2012. Raymond he was self-employed and ran a backhoe and farmed for most of his life. He was a Christian and was a member of Winchester Road Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeraldine “Jerry” Fanning; His siblings: Louis Fanning, Bernice Campbell, Porter Fanning, Ray Fanning, Jessie Braswell, Mary Thornton, Joe Fanning, Virginia Campbell, and Ruth Davis,

Surviving family members include his children: Pam (Jim) Cassidy and Talley (Annita) Fanning; 5 Grandsons: Ellis (Tristan) Cassidy, Justin (Ashley) Cassidy, Jonathan Fanning; Joshua (Mariah) Fanning, Jacob (Tiffany) Fanning, and ten great-grandchildren: Eli, Emme, Elliot, Garrett, and Adalyn Cassidy, and Jarrett, Jessa, Samuel, Gracie, and Vera-Lynn Fanning; He is also survived by a special family member, Dale Cassidy.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 until 7pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10am at the funeral home with Pastor Hal Howard officiating. Burial will follow and will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.

The family would like to express special gratitude to a friend and caregiver, Lisa Traylor.
