Cecil Wayne Voss Cecil Wayne Voss, 72, a resident of Murphy Lane, died Monday, January 27, 2020.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 A.M. at Southgate Church of Christ with Greg Daimwood, Jeff Smith, and Bill Tankersley officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 3:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

Wayne was the son of the late Eugene Cecil Voss and the late Gladys Murphy Voss. On March 3, 1972 he married Sheryl “Sherrie” Smith of Nashville. He was a 1965 graduate of Culleoka High School which he referred to as the University of Culleoka. In July, 1966 he was drafted into the United States Army and sent to Vietnam in November, 1966. On his last day of combat, November 27, 1967, he was shot on the way back to base camp. After his recovery he worked at Middle Tennessee Armature Works and went to work at the Post Office in June, 1973 until his retirement in 2003. He farmed on the side, raising beef cattle but his passion was baling hay and attending University of Tennessee football games. Mr. Voss was a member of Ephesus Church of Christ and Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.

He is survived by his wife, Sherrie Voss, and his three sons, Michael (April) Voss of Murfreesboro; John “Buck” (Carrie) Voss of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and Roscoe (Amanda) Voss of Williamsport. His favorites are his grandchildren, Emily, Gabie, Reese, Banks, Ava, AmeliaRuth, and James. He is also survived by his sister, Faye (Dwain) Jones; nephews, Karl Jones, and Freddie Jones all of Biloxi, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Voss.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Daniel, Jim Farris, Tommy Farris, Hal Holcomb, Billy Truelove, Jim Voss, Terry Voss, and Tommy Voss. Honorary pallbearers include Lee Campbell, Ray Morrow, Alton Walker, Randy Wright, members of Ephesus Church of Christ and the American Legion.
