J. D. Lanier J. D. Lanier

Mr. Lanier passed away Monday morning, January 13, 2020 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

He was born in Middleton to the late K. C. and Willie Mae Porter Lanier and was a life-long resident of Hardeman County. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lanier was preceded in death by a brother, David Lanier.

He had worked as a fabricator at Thyssen-Krupp (formerly Dover) Elevators in Middleton for over 41 years, retiring January 28, 2010. He also had worked for Armira in Bolivar for 5 years. Mr. Lanier farmed in his younger years and worked in construction helping to build ponds and lakes in the area including Roger Springs Lake.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed working in his yard, “bush-hogging”, tractors and various other types of vehicles. He also enjoyed talking and visiting with others especially regarding those he supported in local politics. During Mayor Don Clifft’s time in office, Mr. Lanier served as a liaison between county government and Dover for the installation of an elevator in the Hardeman County Courthouse. Above all else, Mr. Lanier treasured his time spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife, whom he married on May 6, 1967, Carolyn Lanier of Middleton; daughter, Cindy (Scott) Grantham of Middleton; son, Jason (Jennifer) Lanier of Middleton; two brothers, Charles (Diane) Lanier and Ralph (Gail) Lanier, both of Middleton; two grandchildren, Katelyn (Ethan) Marcum and Ethan Grantham; two great-grandchildren, Waylon Parker and “one on the way”.
