TUSCUMBIA-The Tuscumbia Civitan Club announces production of the 2019 Civitan Christmas Ornament featuring Colbert County’s original courthouse.  It is the 24th ornament in the on-going series that showcases historical sites and landmarks in the community.

Colbert County was created in 1867 from the northern part of Franklin County. The original red brick courthouse was built in 1882 at a cost of $14,750.  On May 14, 1908, a fire of unknown origin gutted the building. The current Colbert County Courthouse, completed exactly one year after the fire, incorporates the original walls and window openings.

Ornaments are available at Cold Water Books, Fiddledee D!, The Palace and financial institutions in the town, where they will be for sale throughout the Christmas season.  The price is $15.  Inventory from previous years will also be offered as long as available.   Ornaments may also be purchased from Civitan Club members.

Tuscumbia Civitan Club supports many worthwhile charitable endeavors in the community through sales of the Christmas ornaments and Claxton Fruitcakes.  Fruitcakes are on sale at local grocery stores and from Civitans.   Among the recipients of funds raised are Safeplace, CASA, Meals on Wheels, the Cerebral Palsy Center, Boy’s and Girls’ State and much more.
