Barbara Lula Kohen Kirkland, 89, of Huntsville passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10th with her two sons by her side. She was born June 22, 1930 in Mobile, Alabama and moved to Huntsville with her husband in 1951.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of more than 60 years, J.D. Kirkland, Jr., and her sister, Ann Kohen Parker. Survivors include her two sons, Dal Kirkland (Gina) of Huntsville, and David Kirkland of Orange Beach, AL; a sister, Billie Rae Kohen of Mobile, AL; two grandchildren, Jennifer Kirkland Hart of Huntsville and Allison Kirkland Post (Garrett) of Rome, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and great-grandchildren.
Barbara enjoyed playing bridge, crossword puzzles, reading, the arts, cooking for family and friends, and more than anything spending time with her family. She was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church, a founding member of Huntsville Women’s Club and a member of the Huntsville Hospitality Club.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12th at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 13th at 11 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with Dr. Travis Collins officiating.
