Carolyn Gibson OttmanCarolyn Gibson Ottman, 90, is resting in the arms of her Heavenly Father, after passing away in her home October 9th, surrounded by her cherished family. She was affectionately called “Granny” by most who knew her. She left behind her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, William F. Ottman. Granny and Bill moved to Huntsville in 1968. She spent many years as a navy wife, having been stationed in Pensacola, Florida, Guam, Washington D.C and Norfolk, Virginia. Her passing precedes that of her siblings, Edna Taylor of Cantonment, Florida and Arnold Gibson of Molino, Florida.

Preceded in death by her brothers, Herbert Gibson and Tom Glass, as well as her favorite son-in-law, Jeffry Lee, Granny leaves behind her daughter, Lynn Ottman Lee and son, William Michael Ottman (Aimee). She leaves behind her grandchildren, Sean Lee (Amy), Jason Lee (Alicia), Shanna Lee Inman (Jimmy), Lauren Ottman (A.J. Floyd), Michael Ottman, Matthew Ottman, and their mother, Suzanne Cooper. Granny has been blessed with great-grandchildren as well: Courtney Lee Musso (Taylor), Rachel Lee, Graham Lee, Lexie Inman, Grace Lee, Maddie Inman, Brodie Inman and Grayson Lee.

Granny was highly esteemed, with countless extended family members and friends. She wanted to express love and appreciation for all your acts of kindness during her illness. Special thanks to Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care, specifically Jan Howell and Rhonda Rinck. Your compassion and support were immeasurable.

We will miss Granny’s warmth, sense of humor, devotion to her family and her enthusiasm for holidays, hospitality and making sure we were always well fed with her delicious creations! Granny was a faithful believer in Jesus, a longtime member of Aldersgate Methodist Church and unafraid to meet her Lord. She preferred to be remembered with laughter, not tears. It was her wish that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Huntsville Hospital Foundation for St. Jude, Huntsville Clinic, 801 Clinton E. Huntsville AL 35801.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow in the chapel with the Rev. Earl Freeman and Lydia Locke officiating.

“I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith.”
