George E. Weatherford of Selmer, TNGeorge E. Weatherford of Selmer, TN departed this life on October 6, 2019 in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 83 Years, 7 Months, 22 Days. He was born on February 14, 1936 in McNairy County, TN the son of the late George N. and Thelma Hunt Weatherford. He was united in marriage to Johnnie Miller on June 30, 1956.

Mr. Weatherford was a member at Fourth Street church of Christ since age sixteen. He served as a Deacon for several years until health issues inhibited his ability to serve. George graduated from Selmer High School in 1954 and attended Northeast Mississippi Junior College in Booneville, MS for two years. He enlisted in the Tennessee Army National Guard in 1953 at age seventeen and remained active until retiring from full time service in 1978 as Training Officer and the rank of Major. After his retirement from the National Guard, George worked in family business and had various employment in our immediate area.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Johnnie Weatherford of Selmer; three sons, Randy Weatherford and wife Sheryl, Jon Weatherford and wife Dana, Lee Weatherford and wife Kelly; six grandchildren, Sara Ashe and husband Jeremy, Rachel Weatherford, Hannah Droke and husband Justin, Alex Weatherford, Brooks Weatherford and wife Jenny, Maggie Carroll and husband Lance; five great grandchildren, Addison Ashe, Eli Ashe, Whit Weatherford, Vivian Weatherford, Beau Weatherford; a sister, Margaret Reeder; nephew, Kyle Reeder, along with numerous other nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Weatherford was preceded in death by a brother- in-law, Bill Reeder.

Memorials may be made to Potter Children’s Home in Bowling Green, KY or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
