Corman Lashay Hurtado

ATHENS-On Tuesday, October 8 Police Chief Floyd Johnson issued a statement regarding three arrests made over the weekend:

“Friday afternoon, October 4 shortly before 6:00 the police department received a call about possible shots being fired on Brookhill Drive. Officers later located a female that told officers she was in an argument with the boyfriend on Brookhill Drive when he got out of the car and pulled a gun from his pocket then shot at her several times. She said she took off to keep from being shot. She provided officers with a description and her boyfriends information. A short time later Officer Mac McWhorter located Corman Lashay Hurtado walking on US 72. McWhorter stopped and told Hurtado he needed to talk with him. When  Hurtado turned Officer McWhorter saw the shape of a pistol in  Hurtado’s pocket.  Hurtado then took off running into the wooded area south of US 72. Officer McWhorter was able to catch  Hurtado and take him into custody. Hurtado told officers he threw the pistol down in the woods.  Hurtado was charged with 2 counts domestic violence 3rd degree reckless endangerment , resisting arrest, attempting to elude a police officer, capias

Lymon Ballentine

warrant for reckless driving and violation of the sex offenders registration act for not having identification on his person.  Hurtado was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.

was arrested Friday, October 4 on 2 Grand Jury warrants for failing to register as a sex offender. Ballentine was in the county jail when he was charged. After he was booked at the police department he was returned to the county jail. 

Saturday evening, October 5 First National Bank’s security notified the police department of a male at the HWY 72 branch

Stoica Alexandru

using several different credit or debit cards to get cash from there ATM. Sgt Jimmy Rodgers and Officer Michael Stainbrook arrived and detained Stoica Alexandru . Officers were able to determine Alexandru was wearing a mask to hide his face then blocking the camera at the bank. He was then used mutable cards to gain money from the ATM. Investigator Kelly Fussell and Sgt. Jonathan Caldwell later interviewed Alexandru and charged him with 10 counts of encoded data fraud. Alexandru  was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail. The investigation into this case is continuing at this time.”
