Frances Colleen Garner - Birmingham, ALFrances Colleen Cain Garner, age 92, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully at Brookwood Hospital on Saturday, June 15, 2019. She was a faithful follower of Jesus and a longtime member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church. A native of Henderson, Tennessee, she lived in Chattanooga and Atlanta before spending the majority of her life in Birmingham. From 1966-1979 she owned and operated Frances’ Day Nursery across from Hall-Kent School. The children affectionately called her “Garner” and several have kept in touch with her through the years. She then established a successful house cleaning business and worked until 2016. Her entire life she was a professional seamstress and while she made wedding dresses, an evening gown for Miss Alabama, and clothes for special occasions, she always specialized in alterations. Frances is survived by her daughter, Sherry Earl of Knoxville, TN, her son Frank Garner, his wife, Kristina, and their children, Elise, Ava, and Ella, all of Germantown, TN. She is also survived by her brother, Walter Shaw Cain, of Pinson, TN, the last of Claude and Nancy Cain’s ten children. She leaves behind many much-loved nieces and nephews. Frances was loved by so many and never met a stranger. Her charming smile, her kind and gentle spirit, and her servant heart will be deeply missed, especially by those who knew her best. A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised and her children rise up and bless her. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, September 28, at Bethel Baptist Church, Henderson, TN.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 125 State Route 125, Henderson, TN 38340, for the upkeep of the cemetery.
Arrangements are by Shackelford Funeral Directors, Henderson, TN
