Dorothy Mattie “Mama Dot” Pozak, 90 of Dora, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday September 7, 2019.
Mama Dot was satisfied being a homemaker, selling Avon, raising her children and spoiling her grandchildren. She also worked for Armor Packing Co. in Birmingham. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She loved gospel singing and her church family dearly. She was truly satisfied with her life. In her early church years, she worked diligently alongside the other women in the church cooking, selling and delivering chicken and dressing dinners, selling candy and doughnuts to raise money for the Dora Church of God. She helped in Vacation bible school and she was one of the Kool-Aid & Cookie ladies. She was a lifelong member of Dora Church of God and she was a walking testimony of the goodness of the Lord. She will be remembered for being a Prayer Warrior and her fervent praying for others. She was never ashamed to stop and pray for you at that moment. She would pray for her doctors and nurses. People would seek her out just to pray for them. This is a story that was shared with us by Helen Pickett who delivers meals for the Sumiton Community Center homebound every day. She told me that if Mom prayed for her before she left on her deliveries, everything went smooth. However, if she got in a hurry and was not prayed for before she left, it was a hard day. Mama Dot sure knew how to get a prayer through! When we would pick her up at the Center, people would stop us and say, “Please let her pray for me before she leaves”. What a legacy she leaves us. She was a Proverbs 31 woman. She truly lived the Proverbs 31 life before her husband and family, and that Proverbs 31 woman’s life and prayers paid off, because one evening in their home as Mama Dot and Brother Randy Beck gently led her husband Wilburn in the sinner’s prayer. She told him every night before they went to bed, “Don’t forget to talk to Jesus”. Now she is telling all of us from Heaven the very same thing. “Don not forget to have your talk with Jesus!” She will be greatly missed.
