Image result for Community Services Fair FLORENCE-Shoals residents can learn about social services that are available to them by attending Florence-Lauderdale Public Library’s first Community Services Fair on Saturday, September 28, from 10 am-4 pm. At this event, multiple nonprofit and local government agencies will be set up to provide information about their services and assistance programs. There will also be free health screenings available during the fair.

“The library is already a resource hub for the community, so it makes sense for us to host an event like this, where we can serve as a hub for the resources offered by local organizations,” said Jennifer Butler Keeton, the Programming/Publicity Coordinator at Florence-Lauderdale Public Library.

At the event, there will be information about services related to food and housing, physical and mental health, children and family, education and career, and veteran support. The free health screenings will include basic services like blood pressure and glucose checks. Depending on demand, the number of screenings offered may be limited.

“There are so many wonderful organizations in our area that work extremely hard to meet the needs of our community, and the people who need those services often have constraints related to transportation, technology access, etc,” said Keeton. “Our vision for this event is that it will provide an opportunity for people to come to one location to get information about a number of services. We hope to grow the event in the future by including more organizations and transportation routes to bring people to the fair.”
