Gregory Lynn NivensGregory Lynn Nivens, 51, passed away surrounded by family following a long illness. Greg was survived by his daughter, Madison Lynn Nivens; son, Jack Michael Nivens; parents, Michael C. Nivens and Peggy Cobb Nivens; brother, Darrin K. Nivens (Samantha); nephews, Austin Nivens and Clayton Nivens; uncle, Kerry K. Nivens (Margaret); and many cousins and friends.

Greg graduated from Virgil I. Grissom High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, Civil Engineering, from Auburn University. Some of Greg’s achievements included environmental and conservationist efforts, as well as, support of our country’s military efforts. Greg previously worked for Parsons Corporation, Geosyntec Corporation and Law Engineering. Greg worked in environmental restoration projects, assignments associated with the Military Munitions Response Program, Resource Conservation Recovery Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, landfill construction, low level radioactive waste facility decontamination, and pollution prevention. Greg also worked in Africa and Southeast Asia on construction and environmental assessment projects.

Greg most enjoyed spending time with Madison and Jack. He also enjoyed fishing trips with his parents, as well as, his rose garden, hunting, woodworking, Skoal, bubble gum and, of course, Auburn. War Eagle!

During his less than average life span, Greg went to places he wanted to go, performed work he aspired to do, excelled at the tasks he pursued, and lived life on his own terms. We will always cherish his memory in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care/Huntsville Affiliated or to your favorite charity.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, August 15, 2019, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, Inc.
