ZIP CITY – Nestled in the upper reaches of Lauderdale County, just a few miles south of the Tennessee State Line lies the community of Zip City. Now, you may not think that much goes on there. ans you might be incorrect in your assumption. Case in point: The biggest mudslide event in Lauderdale. Folks came in from all over to get down and get dirty. And that they did.

The mudslide was held next door to P&K Western Wear, the tallest building in Zip City. Proceeds from this “muddy afternoon soirée” went to benefit the Volunteer Fire Department. In the words of event organizer Robert Walker, we’ve had a lot of rain this Summer that put a damper on our monthly get-togethers. So, we got togethered and figured, “Let’s have a mud-slide Saturday. A little bit of rain can only help.”

So that’s what they did. Brought in some fresh topsoil. Laid down some visqueen. Put up a volleyball net. And, voila! When a little rain showed up right on schedule, it only made things better. Take that Mother Nature!
