Columbus Nichols “Nick” Hobbs, Sr. – Obituary

Wednesday, November 7, 2012, Columbus Nichols “Nick” Hobbs, Sr., 98, graduated from his earthly life to his Heavenly Home; his family was at his bedside. Visitation will be Monday, November 12, 2012 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia with his funeral service following in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Zeke Haselden, Rev. Bill Bedsole and Nick’s grandson, Nicky Hobbs III will officiate.

Nick was preceded in death by his three sons; Nick Hobbs, Jr., Ronald D. Hobbs and his wife JoAnne and James Daniel Hobbs.

Surviving is his loving wife of seventy-two years, Mildred Virginia Renfroe Hobbs; two daughters, Bobbie Ann Roach, Judy Jenkins and husband Bill, all of Sheffield; his sister, Marguerite Mann of New Hope, AL; daughters-in-law, Paula and Robin Hobbs, ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one great-great grand-daughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nick was retired from TVA as a River Boat Pilot. He enjoyed arrowhead hunting and collecting, gardening, picking up pecans and sharing with his neighbors, friends and family. He was an active member of Sheffield First United Methodist Church and belonged to Sheffield Masonic Lodge #503 and also Littleville Masonic Lodge #881. He was loved by all he met on his pathway. He enjoyed teaching masonic lessons and traveled all over the State to visit other Masonic Lodges.

Pallbearers will be his Masonic Lodge Brothers.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Sheffield First United Methodist Church or Sheffield Masonic Lodge #503.

Nick’s family expresses special thanks to Keller Ambulance Service, the staff of Keller ICU and Dr. Kenneth Kiser for all the excellent care as well as the kindness shown to Nick and our family.
