Helen Spain LoftinHelen Marie Spain Loftin, 85, of Decatur, AL, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on July 19th, 2019. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggles and ultimately gave her peace.

Helen was born on September 7, 1933 in Hartselle, AL. She attended Hartselle High School & graduated from Decatur High School in 1951. She graduated from Calhoun Community College with an Associate degree in Applied Science in Mental Health Technology with honors in 1973. She was also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Society. Helen had a passion for homeopathic remedies, vitamins, & herbs, & was self-employed as a health nutritionist. She was involved extensively in the community regarding the mentally disabled & pioneered the first adult activity center for developmentally disabled citizens. She was also involved with the Arc of Morgan County. She was strong in her Christian faith, attending many Christian CFO camps throughout her adult life, & loved art & gardening.

Helen married Clifford Loftin in Decatur, AL on December 7th, 1952. They had been married for 44 years when Clifford passed away on November 13th, 1997.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Edward Spain & Lottie Pearl Cannady Spain, & her husband Clifford Loftin. Helen is survived by her 4 children, Teresa Gail Loftin, Steven Earl Loftin, and Melanie (Loftin) Lawrence, of Decatur; Leannah (Loftin) Hartnett with spouse Chris of Flowery Branch, GA; sister Peggy Spain Thigpen of Hermitage, TN, & brother Jerry Lee Spain of Decatur; 5 grandchildren, Scott Hartnett, Thomas Brown, Brittany Morgan, Sean Hartnett, & Sterling Hartnett, 5 great grandchildren & many nieces & nephews.

The family will be having a celebration of life service at Helen’s residence on July 26th at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arc of Morgan County at http://arcofmorgancounty.org/
