Bluit "Ed" YoungBluit “Ed” Young was born in Russellville, Alabama, on November 14, 1920, and passed on July 4, 2019 in Decatur, Alabama. A graduate of Mt. Hope High School, Mr. Young was also a member of the 1943 Class of Auburn University where he majored in Agricultural Engineering and lettered in basketball and played for Coach Shug Jordan. A life-long member of the Mt. Hope Church of Christ, Mr. Young was a lieutenant in the United States Navy during WWII, serving aboard LST383 during the D-Day at Normandy France. For a number of years, Mr. Young owned and operated a small general store, a seed-cleaning operation, and co-owned and operated a fertilizer business with his brother-in-law Gene Pickens in Mt. Hope. He was inducted into the Lawrence County Sports Hall of Fame.
Visitation with family and friends will be Tuesday, July 9, 2019 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville. Funeral services will begin at 1:00P.M. in the funeral home chapel with O.D. Bowling officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Methodist Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Young’s survivors include his two sons: Thomas Young and wife Belinda of Piney Flats, TN, and Robert Young of Palm Harbor, FL; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a close personal friend, Elaine Marshall, and many other friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert B. and Irene C. Young; first wife, Agnes P. Young; second wife, Codell M. Young; brother, Ennis Young; and sisters, Christine Holmes, Marguriette Fennell and Caroline Pickens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the hospice organization of your choice.
