Funeral service for Freddie Shaw Holmes, age 88, of Decatur, will be Sunday, July 7, 2019, 3:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rob Hatfield and Bro. Bryan Blass officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Holmes, who died Thursday, July 4, 2019, at Huntsville Hospital, was born October 25, 1930, in Mississippi to Tommy Holmes and Hazel Shaw Holmes. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister. Mr. Holmes was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, and formerly owned and operated Decatur Business Machines. He was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church for many years, and was a member of Saturday Morning Prayer Group.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean B. Holmes of Decatur; one son, Rick Holmes (Sandra) of Athens; two daughters, Jan Garrison (Tim) and Terri Zills, both of Decatur; four grandchildren, Christopher Garrison, Jeff Garrison, Joshua Zills, and Allyson Holmes; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Rick Holmes, Tim Garrison, Christopher Garrison, Jeff Garrison, Joshua Zills, and Tag Glenn. Honorary pallbearers will be the Saturday Morning Prayer Group, and members of his Sunday School class.
