Jimmy Wayne “Jim” Pruitt, 75, was born on September 17, 1943 to the late William Leo Pruitt and Erma Lou Pruitt. He died peacefully at home on “Pruitt Hill” with family by his side on Sunday, June 30, 2019.

Jim was a staple of the Pruitt Hill community and was loved by many. He was a beloved dad, brother, uncle, “front porch sitting” friend to all the local men and the best PawPaw Jim to his grandchildren. He was Dad! A man with the most tender, humble heart and a God-fearing Christian of the Pentecostal faith. He grew up in the cotton fields of rural Itawamba County and was not one to back down from the challenge of hard work. He made a living primarily as a carpenter but was a “jack of all trades”. Jim was a man with much knowledge about many things in life. He was a constant source of advice and information to his children and he made a huge impact in the lives of his family, friends and people of neighboring communities. He will be missed at the Sunday morning talk sessions with the locals.

The Celebration of Life service will be Tuesday, July 2, 2 p.m. at Calvary Family Worship Center, 369 Ridge Road, Golden, MS. with Bro. David Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Hodge Cemetery, Golden, MS. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his children – Sarah Miller, Charlotte Nelms (Robbie), Rose Gassaway (Randy) and Cindy Allison (Toby). Not only was he blessed with sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, but he also had one sister, Elaine Ashley and two brothers, Jerry Pruitt (Nellie “Tom”) and John Pruitt (Debi). Along with several nieces and nephews, he had a special friend, Edith “Sweetie” Pitts.

He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Pruitt, one grandson, Robbie “Little Rob” Nelms, Jr., his father William Leo and his mother, Erma Worthy Pruitt, three brothers, Ruble Pruitt, Gene Pruitt and Bill Pruitt and three sisters, Ruby Pounders, Nellie Hargett and Kathy Ann Pruitt.
