George Willis Barber, Jr., 92, known as G.W., Gus, and Daddy Gus to his family and friends, passed away on June 26, 2019. A World War II veteran and resident of Mantachie, Mississippi, he retired from Film Transit, Inc. in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a long-time member of Getwell Church of Christ in Memphis and at Mantachie Church of Christ in Mantachie. Before age and health slowed him down, he enjoyed his time calling Bingo at several of the assisted living centers in the community. He will be remembered for being a gentleman and his fondness of his time with family, especially his grand and great grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Minister Kenneth Burleson officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Vernell Price Barber; his two sons, John Barber (fiancée Linda Woods) of Biloxi and Phillip Barber (wife Tina) of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Amber Igienlinski (Chris), Bo Barber (Cari), Spring Sloan, Sara Cleveland (Dave), Layna Gant, and Hayley Barber; ten great-grandchildren, Jordan, Aurelia, Lucas, Alex, Max, Lawson, Hugh, Conner, Lexi, and Hayes; and several relatives of the Barber and Price families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Barber, Sr. and Media Barber; his brothers William Roy and Rex Lee; and his sisters, Ora Gardner, Madie Sue Martin, and Uema Barber.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
