Richard Dee Ortner, 73, passed away peacefully at his home early on Saturday, June 22, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Dee and Syble Ortner; two sisters, Mildred Ramsey of Iuka and Linda Taylor of Allsboro, AL; and niece, Jennifer Ortner Lovelace of Iuka. Richard grew up in Iuka. His father, Dee Ortner was a Baptist preacher and his mother, Syble, was a devoted woman of faith. He grew to love the old hymns and would later in life serve as Music Director at New Prospect Baptist Church. Richard graduated from Iuka High School in 1963. He attended Northeast Jr. College for 2 years. While attending Northeast, Richard got a part time job at the Iuka Shirt factory and met the love of his life, Chris. In 3 short months, the two married in August of 1964, starting a story of faith and true love that would see them through the best and worst days. In 1967, Richard was hired at the Consolidated Aluminum plant in Iuka. He spent his working career there for 45 years and eventually became the supervisor of Maintenance, retiring in 2012. Then he worked briefly at the Welcome Center in Corinth for two years. Above all, Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Chris of 55 years; his three children, Stevie Ortner (Lelah) of Iuka, Sandy Adams (Steve) of Decatur, AL, and Scott Ortner of Iuka; his three grandchildren, Lauren Jones (Dylan) of Decatur, AL, Natalie Adams of Decatur, AL, and Corey Ortner (Kelly) of Belmont; two great grandchildren, Bentley and Kyleigh; one brother, Mike Ortner (Ruth) of Iuka and one sister, Joann Wimberly of Iuka, and many nieces and nephews. Richard will be missed by family and friends but know they will see him again with the Lord. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. All services will be held at Cutshall Funeral Homes in Iuka. Visitation will be Sunday, June 23rd from 5-8pm and continue Monday, June 24, at 2pm until time of funeral. Funeral services will be Monday, June 24th at 3pm, officiated by Natalie Adams and Cody Crum.
