Samuel DeVaughn Smith, 70, of Corinth, MS, died Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at his residence. Sam was a member of the Church of the Crossroads and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from the Daily Corinthian where he worked as an independent contractor for 22 years. He enjoyed collecting guns and knives, as well as attending church and participating in church activities. He also loved his five cats and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Choate Smith of Corinth; two daughters, Angie Smith Harmon (Kevin Melson) of Corinth, and Nikki Smith Hill (Dallis Hill) of Guys, TN; one brother, Basil Smith, Jr. of Corinth; one sister, Kathy Franks of Arthur, IL; five grandchildren, Nick Monroe, Landon Monroe, Tyson Harmon, Kristin Monroe, and Alexis Harmon; one step-grandson, Jordan Harmon; two sisters-in-law, Martha Choate Bonds and Ava Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Basil Walker Smith, Sr. and Elva Laura Good Smith; a brother, Roger Smith; his father and mother-in-law, Wilson and Jewel Choate; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Choate Brown and Jean Choate Smith; two brothers-in-law, Ricky Franks, Sr. and Tommy Choate; two nephews, Steve Smith and Joey Smith; and a niece, Cherie Franks. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 22, at Church of the Crossroads, officiated by Rev. Nelson Hight and Rev. Terry Harmon, Sr. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers include Dallis Hill, Kevin Melson, Landon Monroe, Nick Monroe, Tyson Harmon, and Ricky Franks, Jr. Honorary pallbearers include Adrian Essary, Joe Wells, Billy Vanderford, and Bill Glisson.
