William Roe Green Jr. Mr. William Roe Green, Jr, 86, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away Tuesday evening, June 18, 2019, in Huntsville, Alabama.
Mr. Green was born in Randolph County, Alabama to Willie Roe Green and Eugenia Pearl Bailey Green.
Mr. Green was a charter member of the United Church of Huntsville. He served the church in many roles, most recently as moderator. He was an avid gardener. He was a 1949 graduate of Handley High School in Roanoke, Alabama. He worked as a civil servant for over 35 years. He retired from the U.S. Army Missile Command in the Information Management Directorate and was an early computer programmer at Redstone Arsenal. He also served the community as a driver for dialysis patients after he retired. He enjoyed gathering with extended family as often as possible.
Mr. Green is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years, Sara Elizabeth Smith Green, brother Robert B Green, granddaughter Amber Vibbert and great-grand son Christopher Ryan Webb.
He is survived by son David Green (Sabrina Green); daughters Elisabeth Green-Streeter (Gordon Streeter), Carol Batte (John Batte), Carmel Morris (Archie Morris); sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary Jo and Benny Hollingsworth; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; long-time family friend and neighbor George Sanford; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation for Mr. Green will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 6 to 8 pm at Hampton Cove Funeral Home. His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 11 am at United Church of Huntsville. There will be a private family burial for Mr. Green at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Streeter, Michael Streeter, Eamonn Morris, Ryan Green, Jacob Batte and John Batte, Jr.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at United Church of Huntsville, 7906 Whitesburg Dr. Hsv. AL, 35802, or to the charity of your choice in his loving memory.
