FLORENCE– A joint statement from the City of Florence and Equality Shoals was issued on Thursday, June 20:

“Tuesday, Mayor Steve Holt and Police Chief Ron Tyler met with the President of Equality Shoals, Matthew Pereda, and Secretary Kayla Sloan.  Mayor Holt expresses his appreciation to Mr. Pereda and Ms. Sloan for meeting to discuss the events from last week and review upcoming plans for the parade on June 29. The meeting with Equality Shoals representatives was productive and provided clarification of City policies and procedures.  As the Mayor has previously stated, “Embracing a culture which accepts and celebrates diversity is vital to the progress of the Shoals community.” As such, the City of Florence welcomes any opportunity for open communication with all community organizations.”

The Florence City Council voted in favor of a resolution to allow the Paint for Pride organizers to chalk the crosswalks at the intersection of Mobile and Court Street in Downtown Florence.
