FLORENCE-Florence/Lauderdale Tourism and the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area have teamed up to celebrate and showcase our talented arts and cultural community. Local Makers and Music Day will be held June 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. around the grounds of the Visitor Center in McFarland Park and will feature local makers and music throughout the day.  The event is free to the public.

The various vendors will include hand sewn items, local authors, jewelry, t-shirts, pottery, natural body products, handcrafted cedar wood creations and other handmade crafts.  According to Florence/Lauderdale Tourism Director of Operations Alison Stanfield, “The Shoals has a large community of unique arts and craft makers, artists, authors and musicians.  As a way to showcase them, we have invited a wide variety of vendors to set up booths at the Visitor Center.  We will have a tribute to Eddie Hinton, Muscle Shoals Women music panel and other performances throughout the day. People are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and shop with our local makers.”

The Eddie Hinton Tribute panel featuring Donnie Fritts, David Hood and Dick Cooper will begin at 11:00 a.m. The Women of Muscle Shoals panel will feature Charlene Montgomery, Annette Harman and Jan Grant Gullett.  Andreas Werner with Crazy Chester Music will facilitate the Q&A sessions presenting the contributions Eddie Hinton and the women behind many Muscle Shoals musicians have made on the music industry.  Both panel events will take place inside the Visitor Center Gallery.  Image result for florence alabama tourism

Students from the Entertainment Industry Department at the University of North Alabama will be performing live music outside at the event. Stanfield stated, “While we wanted to showcase our local makers, we wanted to also work with the talented students at UNA and give them the opportunity to gain some exposure and experience with a live show.”  Student performers include Bay Simpson, Katlyn Barnes and Mattie Stembridge and Francisco Lomeli arranging the sound.  Outside performances will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., noon to 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
