Willie Eugene "Gene" BarbreWillie Eugene “Gene” Barbre, age 90 passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019. Mr. Barbre was born October 30, 1928 and was the son of the late Dave and Roxie Barbre.

Services for Mr. Barbre are Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home at 11:00AM. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery with Rev. Joe Teal officiating.

Mr. Barbre was a member of West Highland Baptist Church for 56 years and was actively involved in teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, serving on various committees and serving as a deacon.

After his retirement from TVA at Brown’s Ferry Nuclear Plant, Gene started his volunteer career. This included being involved in many non-profit organizations. Some of those were CASA, where he helped for many years with mud volleyball fundraising, Habitat for Humanity, Carpenters for Christ and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.

He served in the U.S. Navy. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and woodworking. Many people in the city benefited from these hobbies as he would give away his game to them. He built ramps for those who had difficulty getting into their houses along with many other projects.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Martha June Barbre; his sister, Helen Miller and nephew, David Miller.

He is survived by his son, Steve Barbre (Melisa), daughters, Sandra Vastano (Michael), Ceri Barbre, and son, Jeff Barbre (Tina); grandchildren, Adam Vastano, Russ Vastano, Andrew Vastano, April Jones, Jamey Barbre, Alex Barbre and Nick Barbre; 10 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter arriving in October and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are grandsons and great grandsons.
