Charles Henry Thompson – Obituary

Charles Henry Thompson, age 93 of Cherokee, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019. His graveside service, with full military honors, will be today, May 21 at noon at Harris Chapel Cemetery with George Henley officiating.

Charles was a lifelong resident of Cherokee, Alabama. He was a partner and eventual owner of a Father and Son grocery store for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WWII, a Colbert County Administrator, and the last Charter member of Harris Chapel Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ebra and Lillie Thompson; sisters, Hazel Sanderson and Betty Malone; sons, Allen Thompson and Steven Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Thompson; daughters, Janice Godfrey (Doug) and Lori Talley (Tim); brother, Bobby Thompson (Nelda); grandchildren, Jeff Thompson, Jennifer Weaver, Josh Thompson, Erika Allen, Drew Godfrey, Chad Talley and Whitney Dean; and daughters-in-law, Paula Thompson and Joan Thompson.

Charles will be remembered as a great cook, and a wonderful host; he loved feeding his church family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and an Alabama football fan. He was devoted to his community, serving in the Lions Club, and other various community organizations. His kindness to others will always be greatly remembered.

Family will serve as pallbearers.
