Chad Vining, assistant Parks and Rec Director, tells Brooks he is Announcer of the Year

ATHENS-On Monday, May 20 during his P.E. class, Athens Intermediate School student Brooks Givens heard a congratulatory message from Atlanta Braves broadcaster Chip Caray. Brooks is Announcer of the Year for Athens Parks and Recreation. Brooks, who is autistic, announces the 11 and 12 year old baseball games. His mother, Stacey Givens, says the kid who stood with his head down a few years ago on stage now commands the mic. She said he now feels a part of something he loves that he didn’t have the skills to play. Brooks loves the Atlanta Braves and listening to the games, so the recorded message from Caray was a special way for him to celebrate being Announcer of the Year.
