Wendell WestmorelandOliver Wendell Westmoreland, 80, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born May 28, 1938, in Dorsey to William Robert and Susan C. McMillen Westmoreland. He worked at Milburn DeVaughn’s Dairy Barn in his earlier years and retired from Leggett and Platt. He was Baptist in belief. He was an avid outdoorsman and was known far and wide as a good country veterinarian. He enjoyed hunting deer, turkeys, coons, and squirrels as well as fishing and gardening. He raised world champion coon and squirrel dogs, loved his honeybees, and was known for his commercial fishing net tying abilities.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Allen Gullick officiating. Burial will be in the Keyes Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Westmoreland; four sons, Danny W. Westmoreland and Thomas W. Westmoreland (Telena), both of Dorsey, Johnny Ray Westmoreland (Joyce) of the Cardsville community, and Oliver Wendell Westmoreland, Jr., of the home; one daughter, Wanda Faye Keith of Mantachie; two sisters, Jettie Pate of Fulton and Janie Laura Wheeler (Terry) of Ballardsville; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Francis Culver, a grandchild, Jamie Lynn Westmoreland; a special aunt, Jennie McMillen; and his maternal grandparents, Thomas I. and Rosa McMillen.

Pallbearers will be Rusty Loden, Barry Green, Perry Loague, Sam Thompson, Johnny Miller, and Haskel Kitchens.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
