Car Free Parkway Experience on the Natchez Trace Parkway

 Image result for Car Free Parkway Experience on the Natchez Trace ParkwayWILLIAMSON COUNTY, TN – The Natchez Trace Parkway will hold a biannual “Car Free Parkway Experience” day for bicyclists and pedestrians between mile markers 429 and 440 this Sunday, May 19. The Parkway will be closed in this area from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. These events are scheduled to be held on the third Sunday in May and the last Sunday in September.

During these events, there will be no vehicle traffic allowed within this area. The Natchez Trace Parkway is a unit of the National Park Service. The goal of this event is to promote safe outdoor recreation while having limited impacts to vehicle traffic.

Closure gates will be placed two miles south of Highway 100 at the mile marker 440 parking area, at the New Highway 96 on ramp, and north of Highway 46 (Pinewood Road). National Park Service staff will be available at each closure gate to assist the public. Parking for bicyclists and pedestrians will be available at the mile 440 parking lot, New Highway 96 access, Pinewood Road Ranger Office, and Garrison Creek.

Restrooms/water are limited and will be located at Timberland Park (Mile 437) and Garrison Creek (Mile 428). Timberland Park will be open at 8:00 AM to accommodate bicyclist and pedestrian visitors; although non-handicapped vehicle access to the site will be restricted during the event. A vehicle detour will be in place using Highways 46, 96, and 100; please see the attached map for more information.
