Ural Smith, Jr. – Obituary

It is with much sadness that the family of Ural Smith, Jr., announce his passing on May 10, 2019.   He recently resided in Canterfield Senior Living in Kennesaw, GA. Mr. Smith was born in Tanner, Alabama on July 16, 1939 and lived in Decatur, Alabama for his early years until the family moved to Indianapolis where he lived until 2016.

Mr. Smith worked in computer operations -for the State of Indiana, Indiana Gas Company and Citizens Gas Company in Indianapolis until 1976.  In 1976 he opened an office supply distributorship providing office supplies to government and large businesses.  Over the years, he served on several boards including that of Ivy Tech Community College Indianapolis Region serving as Region president until 2011 and was appointed Chairman Emeritus in 2014.

In 2016, he and his wife moved to Tanner, AL.  He is preceded in death by many members of the George Bridgeforth family including his mother, Vivian Bridgeforth Smith and father, Ural Smith, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Lelia Powell Smith, one daughter, Melissa Smith Turner (Timothy), one sister, Shirley Ann Smith Lynch (Jesse) Indianapolis, IN, four grandchildren, Dr. Zachary Bridgeforth Turner, Alexis Bridgeforth Turner, Joshua Bridgeforth Turner, and Aaron Bridgeforth Turner as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at Lakeview United Methodist Church, Tanner, AL on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 12:00 p.m., with Royal Funeral Home-Mason Chapel of Athens, AL directing.
